Southeast Asian Mathematics Olympiad (SEAMO), Mathematics Olympiad competitions are widely embraced by top-tier schools for their prestige and challenge. However, many of these competitions are highly advanced, often discouraging novice participants who may struggle to perform well. This has led to concerns among teachers and parents, who feel that the problems tested are overly complex even for gifted students creating a steep barrier to entry.
To address this gap, the Terry Chew Institute of Mathematical Olympiad (TCIMO) initiated extensive research to design a more accessible pathway. Our goal is to gradually stretch and develop the abilities of young Olympians, allowing them to experience success early on. This approach fosters confidence and encourages continued participation, ultimately preparing them for more rigorous competitions.
After thorough review and development, we found that our question design is particularly well-suited for students in Southeast Asia.
SEAMO is gaining momentum and we invite the support of Principals, Heads of Mathematics Departments, teachers, parents, and students to help us grow this meaningful initiative.
